The Persian or Persian Longhair is a popular pedigreed cat in North America. The first Persian ancestors arrived in Italy from Persia about 1620.

In 1994, the Ragamuffin was separated from the Ragdoll. Breeders crossed Ragdolls with Persians, Himalayans, and other domestic long-haired cats to add more colors.

Birmans are stockier than Thai Siamese and have silky coats and white feet. They are born white and develop their markings.
