Insulin resistance causes hyperglycemia and visceral obesity. Hyperglycemia can lead to prediabetes and Type 2 diabetes. She suggests cutting carbs, even brown rice, to lose visceral fat.
Quinoa, like brown rice, is a whole grain with protein, fiber, and healthy carbs that can help you lose weight.
"However, like brown rice, it's still a carbohydrate that can spike blood sugar levels and contribute to insulin resistance," Richards advises. Reduce carbs, even quinoa, to shed visceral fat.
We adore sweet potatoes, but too much is bad. "Sweet potatoes are nutritious root [vegetables] that [are] high in fiber, vitamins, and minerals," Richards says.
"However, they're also a carbohydrate that can spike blood sugar levels and contribute to insulin resistance." She advises restricting carbs like sweet potatoes to lose visceral fat.
Finally, Richards warns that eating too much whole wheat pasta, which is high in fiber and low in calories, might raise blood sugar. Whole wheat pasta has fiber and minerals.
